As we delve deeper into the summer months, the temptations of nostalgia come flooding in. School is out and now is the ideal time to perfect your backstroke finesse and cannonball splash. But wait, you have meetings, phone calls, new business ventures and absolutely no time at all. Better to stay productive and focused, you think.

The ability to work from anywhere, at anytime has given us the ability to function successfully in all of our different roles as individuals. These days, people can work from home; conducting virtual meetings and check-ins with team members while out of the office. Instead of “checking out” for the night, we check our emails. The facilities for success and productivity are at our very fingertips, but with that, the lines between work-life and personal-life are blurred, if they even exist at all.

Accessibility to our work is surely something to be celebrated, however, as the boundaries of work and personal life disappear, so does our ability to be productive and efficient. When we intentionally create this time of rest, we allow ourselves to become more efficient and energized in our workplace. This summer, M E Clarke encourages you to take time for yourself— turn your phone off, explore, rejuvenate and enjoy yourself! Here are some tips to help you relish in the beauty of summer:

  • Take small breaks throughout the day— Go for a 10-minute walk mid-morning or during your lunch break.
  • Even if a week long vacation just won’t work out this year, choose a day to do something you normally wouldn’t. Turn off notifications on your phone and enjoy what your city has to offer.
