Strategic Visioning: Exploring the Possibilities
Does passion drive your sustainability? How do you make sure that your thriving organization will sustain itself in the future? How do we ensure “Greatness” in times of chaos and turmoil?
Religious communities are facing declining populations while an increasing number of folks are choosing to remain ‘unaffiliated’ or in others words, the younger generations are disengaged. And still other faith communities, like Crossroads, have developed an experience that attracts and welcomes the very same population others struggle so much to retain. What is their secret?
We recently partnered with one religious community that is taking a moment to turn inward to reflect more closely on this very experience. Adath Israel is a Kehillah Kedoshah, a Conservative Jewish community and they have a thriving religious school, are fiscally sound and have a robust, engaged congregation but in looking forward, wonder about how these external realities will affect the future of the congregation.
Although it often feels like an incredibly daunting task, Strategic Visioning is a great place to start when an organization finds itself at a crossroads, needing to make critical decisions that will greatly impact the future of the organization. Whether it’s the retirement of a leader, merging of departments or organizations, reorganization or even in the aftermath of an organizational conflict, there are many ripples caused by such changes and the subsequent transitions.
Strategic Visioning can be an opportunity to remove the rose colored glasses and take a real, clear look at what is going on. A participatory data-driven assessment may reveal new views and perspectives not considered before or it may reveal opportunities and weaknesses unknown to those making decisions. Taking the time to align people from across an organization can launch it to new levels, providing the framework needed to operate moving forward. When taking extra care to involve key stakeholders of an organization in a visioning process, benefits will abound, and people will have ownership in the plan, jumping at the opportunity to implement it.
