Lessons From Our Four Legged Co-Worker
When you walk into M E Clarke Consulting you will initially be greeted by our four legged co-worker Ziva. Ziva, a rescue from the Highland County Humane Society, is a valued member of the team and never fails to provide us with little reminders that some overlook. Sometimes it can be easy to get wrapped up with busy schedules, never ending meetings and constant incoming emails. However, Ziva makes sure that we do not get too caught up in the daily grind with just a few everyday lessons:
- Don’t take yourself too seriously– Have some fun! Life does not have to be all work and no play, be goofy. Ziva is the office goofball and between chasing her tail and constantly stealing slippers she always finds a way to keep things fresh and fun.
- It is good to take a break– Although Ziva has an astute understanding of work time she also knows that sometimes you just need a break. Whether it’s a walk around the block or simply gnawing at a bone it is ok to put the work down for a moment and take a breath. After a few minutes away from your work you can return with a fresh outlook.
- Maintain good relationships– Ziva is always quick to greet everyone each morning and say hello throughout the day just to remind you that you are important to her. She shows us that it is always important to maintain our relationships no matter how busy you are. Popping in to just say hello can really make someone’s day.
Speak up– Ziva is not afraid to tell you how it is. If she wants to go outside she is not shy in letting everyone know. Next time you feel strongly about something or want to offer your opinion, speak up. You will not be heard if you do not say what you are thinking. Speak up and good things will come your way.
- If there are barriers, work to overcome them– When Ziva wants something she works hard to get it. One of her favorite toys has a opening in the center where treats are placed. She will spend hours playing with the toy to get every last piece of the treat in the center. Her persistence shows us that just because there is an obstacle you should not give up. Find solutions to overcome these barriers and success will follow.
- Do not focus on failures– We all have failures, for Ziva it may be losing a tug of war battle. Whatever the problem is, do not linger on it. If Ziva does not win the first tug of war match, does she give up? No, she tries again with the same intensity as the first.
- Get a good nights sleep– It can be easy to get sucked into late nights watching reruns of your favorite television series but a good nights sleep is important. Ziva is always sure to get enough sleep so that she will have enough energy to run around the park the next morning or chase away an intruding animal. Take care of yourself, and get enough sleep so that you will have the energy to accomplish great things the next day.
