About Matthew

Matt Clarke joined MECC in June 2024. He is a proud Cincinnati native who is often found supporting local sports teams, enjoying the city’s arts scene or strolling a nearby nature center. He has worked as a registered nurse for 15 years primarily in critical care and special procedure departments. In roles as a charge nurse and clinical coordinator, Matt found himself leading teams through intense circumstances including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Matt’s passion for serving people started in high school through the Jesuit social teachings at St. Xavier High School where he served in various community service organizations throughout Greater Cincinnati and had the opportunity to embark on a mission trip to Ilo, Peru to work with children and families living in extreme poverty. What he learned on that trip would forever change his life. He kept noticing that those living in the community had an incredible zest for life though they often lived hungry and in sickness. They had spirit, they had community, they had love. It was not worldly possessions that made them happy, it was their sense of community.

He knew he wanted to serve his community and went on to receive his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Xavier University. He began his nursing career working with blood cancer patients  in both the medical ICU and blood cancer ICU at Jewish Hospital Cincinnati before taking a position in critical care transportation at The Ohio State University Medical Center. While at OSU, he was recruited to work in procedural endoscopy where he fine-tuned his teamwork approach to nursing care and soon excelled as the charge nurse. He learned the importance of teamwork, leadership, and interpersonal communication at OSU while training in Crew Resource Management, a set of training procedures for use in environments where human error can have devastating effects.

Wanting to be closer to family, Matt moved back to Cincinnati and took on a new challenge in what he considers to be the pinnacle in the world of registered nurses: the Cardiac Cath Lab. Matt soon became charge nurse and clinical coordinator and worked as the educator and trainer for new staff joining the Cath Lab. It was at this point in his career when COVID-19 gripped the world. As people were isolating, Matt was driving empty roads to serve his community working directly with the sickest of the sick. He was astounded at the sense of community shown by and toward first responders. A great pride in his life.

Always looking for the next challenge, Matt took an opportunity on a travel assignment in interventional radiology at the University of Kentucky A.B. Chandler Medical Center working with an underserved population of rural Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Working on a very large team, it was important to quickly develop a rapport with physicians, techs and fellow nurses. Matt utilized his strong teamwork skills and again found himself training staff and team leading.

During this time, Matt got married to the love of his life, Katie, and recently welcomed a baby boy, Liam. Matt had different opportunities to work in Cincinnati but wanted to be selective. He wanted to work on a team that serves the community, builds teamwork and focuses on interpersonal health and well being. M E Clarke Consulting was a perfect fit. Matt is grateful for the opportunity to work on a well rounded team that takes pride in high character and valuing others. He is eager to apply his skills of teamwork, community building, and training as he ventures into this new world.

In his free time Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and son, as well as his extended family and friends. You’ll also find him cheering on Cincinnati sports teams, hiking, gardening, and has recently found the world of bird watching, specifically hummingbirds and songbirds.
