Celebrating International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day 2014
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has. ” – Margaret Mead
In the United States, women have been fighting for equality for years, in order to gain the right to vote, to receive equal pay, to be heard and respected in the workplace and to hold the same jobs as their male counterparts. Many women around the world face the denial of basic rights such as being able to go to school, work, own property, have a bank account, and access to healthcare. On March 8th, we will bring these issues to light while celebrating the advancements and achievements of women during the observance of International Women’s Day. My question is why just one day? How do we build women back into ‘his’tory and tell our stories every day? How do we support women in the workplace?
I don’t know all of the answers but I believe the first step is awareness and education. This video does an amazing job of telling the history and successes of women. Check it out!
